I don’t know about you but I’ve been ignoring the news during this COVID-19 outbreak as I’m trying to keep stress levels down to a minimum but I think now is the time to address the issue. This is a routine that I’ve been working towards during “normal” life but now I have a lot more free time to complete it and I’ve really got into the swing of it.
Below I offer my guidance via my new routine now I’m quarantined;
So let’s get started with some basic hygiene- First thing from awakening I go to brush my teeth and always do an Ayurvedic copper tongue scrape. This is my one must do, first thing, everyday routine. Making sure this is a constant routine reminds me subconsciously to get going for the day. Not to mention the immune boosting benefits of copper tongue scrapers. The copper naturally kills bacteria on your tongue and increases certain enzymes needed for healthy microbes. Overnight lots of toxins are expelled onto the tongue and that’s why it’s important to do it first thing before food or drink as not to swallow them back down. There’s a reason they’re excreted.
Next up is Breathwork and/or meditation which 90% of the time includes my favourite technique called Breath of Fire (unless on my cycle) as it gives me much needed energy. All types of Breathwork are great for peace of mind as how you breathe affects your parasympathetic system. The deeper the breath throughout your day the more calmer you will feel as it lowers your cortisol. Immunity is also raised as it boosts the supply of cells to your lymphatic system that protect you from bacteria and virus. 70% of toxins can be released through the breath so basically breath is just a cycle of releasing toxins and breathing in protective measures.

After that I will eat as breathwork is done best on an empty stomach. Adding Reishi mushroom powder to a smoothie full of vitamins and antioxidant fruit or adding to my decaf coffee or hot cacao is amazing for aiding viral infection protection and offering immune support. Most medicinal mushrooms provide some form of immune support so I highly recommend adding some to your diet.
Somewhere in my day I will take a cold water shower which goes hand in hand with breathwork. You start taking deeper breaths when exposed to cold water which in tow increases your white blood cell count. A high white blood count is important for a stronger immune system and If you want to learn more about water therapy I suggest searching the Wim Hof method. But for me personally I’m using it to help with my anxiety as it creates a small stress response which leads to hardening. This is when your nervous systems gets used to being exposed to a little stress which then builds up to allow you to handle any stressful situations in the future.
The next part of my routine I don’t feel the need to explain. It’s time to do some Yoga or other form of exercise as moving your body is super beneficial and as we are more stagnant during this time it feels great to stretch out.
Just as great is a daily walk in nature but making sure to follow social distancing guidelines (in the UK we’re allowed to exercise outside once a day) . Outdoor walks means I’m getting fresh air, clearing the lungs with this fresh air and completing exercise. This helps with white blood cell count as well and If you’ve been reading my blog posts in the past you know how important nature to our mental health. These walks feel even more special now it’s the only time I can get outside.
So there you have it, my morning routine. These points don’t seem like much but can easily take up half my day. This time in our lives includes a lot of yin energy yet many of the people in the spiritual community are trying to say this is the perfect time to work on your business ideas, sell yourself through your hobbies and start many new things. For some however it’s simply the best time to get some rest and reset. Our society is known to have us rushing around life instead of allowing time for ourselves. So however you’re feeling I suggest you take some time today to do something good for yourself which in line affects your immune system plus your mental health. Even simply sitting down and taking 3 deep breaths after reading this will be beneficial during this COVID-19 period.
