So before I dive into the nitty gritty of how I felt lets go over the basics.
The 3 part breath is a calming, anxiety reducing, lung capacity enlarging type of Pranayama breath. The benefits are simple yet so amazing.
To do this breath you completely inhale into the lower abdomen, then the lower rib area, then the lungs in one fluid movement and then exhale from lungs, ribs then lower belly completely letting go.
You can also pause between each breath and this is certainly a great way to teach yourself mindfully how to breath into those spaces. Personally I did the fluid, in one breath approach and these are my results after doing it for only 10 minutes daily.
So I had the usual benefits such as feeling calmer and taking much deeper breaths but the not really surprising but what I wasn’t particularly expecting included a deep sense of gratitude. At one point I opened my eyes afterwards and I was looking at the ceiling feeling grateful for the ceiling.. sounds crazy but I was so happy to have my room. I went around looking at all my plants & pretty decor, thanking the little world I’ve created for myself in my bedroom.
What came along with this gratitude was my vision looking much brighter. Like that sparkly Instagram filter had filtered into my eyesight. I guess the science behind this had something to do with taking in more oxygen. This only lasted for a few short moments and I wasn’t completely sure when it stopped as I carried on with my day. I normally have brighter vision after more energising Breathworks so this was interesting to witness.
Finally my mind felt 100% more clear & focused. I was contemplating in a quiet mind sort of way and felt peaceful when 10 minutes before I felt sad, tired and overwhelmed with negative thoughts.
So now you’ve read about all these benefits I’m sure you want to have a go. I created a guided meditation on YouTube for you to watch to get the hang of the breath. I also invite you to challenge yourself in the same way and try doing this daily for 1 week. There’s some really simple journal prompts I used which were “how do I feel before meditation?” and “How do i feel after meditation?”
So let me know how you feel after this breath in a comment below! I’d love to hear from you
